Our flock started in February 2025 with eight straight-run chicks from Tractor Supply: D (short for Dorothy, until she turned out to be a rooster), Willow, Spike, Cleopatra, Kerrigan, Annabelle, Emily Dickinson and Rogue. Eight birds, one small coop, and a very steep learning curve.
The flock today
On April 26, 2026 nineteen chicks arrived and the flock jumped to twenty-five. We are at twenty-six birds now: twenty-two hens and four roosters. Willow, D, Kerrigan, Annabelle, Emily Dickinson and Rogue are still with us from that first eight.
The four boys
The four roosters in the coop now are D, Willow, Apollo, and Ghost. Getting all four in the same space without a fight is not a small thing if you keep roosters. Hagrid was from that same April batch as Apollo and Ghost, but he never made it over to join them.
